PS3 has great ads and all but we always see them offering the same type of games. I think Wii by Nintendo has been doing great showing in the ads that they offer something different.
I don't think Nintendo will be battling at all, unless Microsoft or Sony decide to turn to casual, familiar games, which they are doing in quite a shy manner.
That makes Nintendo the only competitor in a market they have just created, and thus, the more experienced one. I think Sony and Microsoft will have to learn quite a lot before the aforementioned battle begins.
By the way, Sony has succesful casual games like Singstar, EyeToy or Buzz. As I remember Singstar reached the 7 million mark in Europe.
Nintendo sales are decreasing generation over generation:
NES>SNES>N64>GC.
Nintendo did a great marketing job with Wii and DS, but they have a lack of great Wii titles (almost all Wii titles are PS2/PSP ports or recicled Gamecube tiles). Technically all (except Zelda) are lower than the Game Cube version of Resident Evil 4. And it's too multiplayer focused, If we don't count Zelda you don't have any single player AAA experience.
Europe is Sony land. Ps3 will rule here as PS2 and PS1 did with indecent sales (Ps3 in 2nd place).
Doesn't matter if it's too expensive. Playstation it's a extremely strong brand here. My mother (65 years old) uses the term "la plei" when she's refering to my GameCube (I don't have the PS2) or to my DS.
Wii will rule in Japan and X360 in USA (Ps3 in 2nd place). Ps3 will be #1 worldwide in LTD terms in 2009 aprox.
Ps3 hardware sales will boost next autumn / christmas (almost 10 AAA titles are scheduled), and like X360 will have another boost with the pricecut.

PS3 will stand last
The first battles will be for Microsoft and Nintendo, but the Sony PS3 will win at war's end
I don't think Nintendo will
